Coordinator of Contract Enforcement

The Professional Staff Congress/CUNY, AFT Local 2334, AAUP, is a progressive, activist union representing 30,000 faculty and staff at the City University of New York. PSC is dedicated to advancing the professional lives of its members, enhancing their terms and conditions of employment, and maintaining the strength of the nation's largest, oldest, and most visible urban public university.

The PSC is seeking candidates for a Coordinator of Contract Enforcement position, based in New York City.

Responsibilities: Under supervision, with latitude for independent decision-making, administers the collective bargaining agreement and is responsible for implementation of the policies and procedures of the established grievance process. Duties include:

  • Investigate, prepare, and present grievances at step one and step two; negotiate settlement agreements with management representatives at CUNY
  • Work with chapter leadership on contract enforcement and labor-management issues affecting faculty and professional staff and on implementation of strategies for enforcement of complex and cross-campus contractual issues
  • Utilize contract enforcement in a way that builds union power.
  • Maintain an effective system of follow up on member inquiries, workplace issues and grievances with staff and member grievance counselors, including digital reporting
  • Oversee a small team of rank and file grievance counselors and advisors who respond to member inquiries  build worksite participation, educate and organize around contractual rights and file grievances using electronic databases
  • Assist with the implementation of grievance counselor training
  • Research, analyze and prepare reports on contract enforcement issues

Primary Qualifications:

  • Extensive full time contract enforcement experience as a union grievance representative or union-side labor lawyer
  • Demonstrated commitment to progressive trade unionism
  • Demonstrated skill in the interpretation, administration of collective bargaining agreements and the negotiation of settlement agreements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a wide range of contexts
  • Experience with database programs
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with and supporting member leaders and activists in contract enforcement
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to pay attention to details

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in public sector higher education unions
  • Experience in contract enforcement with professional and contingent workers
  • Organizing experience
  • Expertise with database program design and implementation

Compensation:

  • Salary: $75,000 – $105,000, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive benefit package
