Administrative Assistant

Based in Harrisburg, PA

 

The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, a 700,000 strong membership statewide union organization seeks a highly organized, skilled, and serious individual for full-time work in a fast-paced, busy office. This position will primarily provide administrative support for the office of the Secretary Treasurer and the Executive Assistant to the President.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with Secretary Treasurer to coordinate meetings, events, and conferences
  • Drafting letters, memos, and agendas, and keeping comprehensive files
  • Preparing materials for Board meetings
  • Taking detailed minutes at meetings and preparing them for approval
  • Convention/Conference preparation and planning
  • Tracking action items and work plans to ensure initiatives are progressing

Minimum training and requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an administrative support position
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • The ideal candidate is polished and dedicated to detail and precision.
  • Convention/Meeting planning preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and capacity to track and systematize information
  • Strong ability to stay highly organized and multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Proven self-starter who can work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Professionalism and interpersonal skills
  • Exemplary capacity to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in unions, human rights, and advocacy are a plus
  • Familiarity with state legislature and governmental departments a plus
