Temporary Health & Safety Trainer II

Based in Albany, NY

 

The NYS Public Employees Federation (PEF) is a labor union representing around 50,000 professional, scientific, and technical workers in NYS government. Members include healthcare, education, corrections and supervision, youth services, direct care, and other professional titles.

Overview:
Assists staff and officers in the design and development of a union-based occupational health and safety program, including training sessions and workplace health and safety information network.

Responsibilities:

  1. In conjunction with field service representatives, assist PEF Divisions in the area of workplace health and safety.
  2. Advise Statewide Officers, PEF representatives and staff on occupational health and safety issues impacting on and related to development of proposed PEF policies and position papers.
  3. Develop training programs, workshops and curricula on health and safety issues, as assigned.
  4. Coordinate workplace surveys and walk-throughs aimed at identifying potential hazards and recommending control strategies.
  5. Work with PEF Training Department on the design and delivery of health and safety sessions and informational materials.
  6. Work with labor and management representatives in planning, developing, and implementing occupational safety and health training programs.
  7. Assist in coordinating the development and implementation of a workplace health and safety network.
  8. Assist in the administration and implementation of any health and safety grants (Federal, State, or private) that are received by the Union.
  9. Organize materials for health and safety training sessions.
  10. Coordinate, on behalf of PEF, with organizations and contractors as assigned.
  11. Consistent and reliable attendance.    

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Industrial Hygiene or a related field.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for advanced degree.

Successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbal) with staff, members, executive team, and elected officials.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills including time management and attention to detail.
  • Experience in public speaking/providing presentations and trainings.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $63,154.00 - $90,538.00 (based on experience).

In addition, a transportation allowance of $564/month is provided for this position.

* Temporary appointment to replace incumbent on leave (tentatively September 2022 through July 2023). *
