Disinformation Coordinator

Based in Madison, WI
(currently remote)

 

A Better Wisconsin Together (ABWT) is seeking a full time Disinformation Coordinator to help counter disinformation across Wisconsin. The Disinformation Coordinator will assist the Partnerships Director to identify partners—progressive organizations and other allies—and be responsible for coordinating counter-disinfo strategies. The Disinformation Coordinator will help develop a network of partners ready to take on disinformation and will help them formulate effective responses to disinformation as it arises.

The ideal candidate will have excellent relationship-building skills with an ability to work with stakeholders and partners in adapting programmatic objectives as the digital program evolves. They will thrive working in a team environment on priority issues and campaigns. Additionally, they will have experience building both organizing and outreach plans and be able to think strategically on how to scale organizational initiatives.

This position reports to the Research Director and works in collaboration with the ABWT’s research, digital, and communications team members as well as with organizational stakeholders, partners, and consultants.

Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $60,000-$70,000

About A Better Wisconsin Together
ABWT, a progressive state communications and research hub in Wisconsin, is seeking a Disinformation Coordinator to join our team. We’re an advocacy organization focused on public policy and serving as a center for progressive message development, testing, and communications. This is an exciting position where you will be working with a team to advance progressive values. Along with rapid response and earned media, ABWT engages Wisconsinites on issues using paid digital, television, and radio communications.

While this position is currently remote, it will be based in Madison, Wisconsin upon the re-opening of our offices once it is safe to do so. Our in-person office is currently closed due to COVID-19. Additionally, this position may require some evening and weekend hours as needed. We are a small, nimble team working in a fast-paced environment on the frontlines of the fight to advance progressive values and policies in Wisconsin.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and implement strategic counter-disinformation plans
  • Coordinate counter-disinformation trainings for partner organizations
  • Prepare regular reports and timely updates on data collected
  • Assist in developing narratives and message guidance for use by partner organizations
  • Create structures for reporting state-specific disinformation and responding to it with partners & allies
  • Use social listening tools to monitor disinformation and media conversation about issues in Wisconsin
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy or counter narratives

Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a passion for progressive politics who have excellent relationship-building skills with an ability to work with stakeholders and partners in adapting programmatic objectives as the digital program evolves. They will thrive working in a team environment on priority issues and campaigns. Additionally, they will have experience building both organizing and digital programmatic plans and be able to think strategically on how to scale organizational initiatives.

You should have:

  • A track record of building relationships with key stakeholders and partner organizations
  • A strong commitment to working in a tight team with positive, supportive attitude and the willingness to be flexible and take on additional tasks as needed
  • A record of leading projects, and managing short-term and long-term goals
  • An understanding of traditional communications best practices, media landscape, and narrative development
  • An understanding of research best practices and the ability to apply research findings
  • A working knowledge of social media platforms, practices, and use
  • A strong sense for identifying and capitalizing on emerging trends
  • Comfort working in a flexible, fast-paced, dynamic environment where changes in external factors can create new opportunities and challenges to existing strategies
  • Experience developing insightful, pragmatic, equitable, and sustainable ways to tackle common challenges and produce positive change
  • A demonstrated commitment to disrupting racism and other systemic barriers in the advocacy world

Bonus Points

  • A familiarity with progressive politics in Wisconsin
  • A familiarity with identifying and addressing disinformation
  • An understanding of social media metrics and digital monitoring software
  • Experience monitoring online activity
  • Experience in political research

Salary is $60,000-$70,000 annually. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance.
