Lead Research Analyst

Position Summary & Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the Research Director, this individual will help lead a statewide team of researchers who work directly with campaign teams, including field organizers, communicators, political staff, union and non-union workers, public agencies, and content experts. Common research areas include: public and private companies, service industries, client sectors, investigatory surveys, relevant legislative & regulatory review.

Examples of Duties: 

  • Oversee and provide strategic research support for external organizing campaigns and contract bargaining negotiations.
  • Conduct online, local and field research on companies, industries and/or real estate development projects
  • Develop company analyses and adapt them for various audiences (ex: union leadership & staff, workers, stockholders, political & regulatory bodies, the public)
  • Support union program to move campaigns forward through organizing, field actions and politics, as needed.
  • Support, lead and develop research staff. 
  • Minimum Qualifications & Skills:  Graduation from an accredited college or university in relevant field with at least four (4) years of experience in research and staff support, with demonstrated ability in quantitative or qualitative research.  
  • Proven commitment to social and economic justice and improving the lives of working people.
  • Experience working on campaigns with a labor union, public policy, or non-profit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of union organizing practice and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in fast-paced and diverse team environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, develop and support researchers and/or strategic campaign staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing across audiences.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, social media platforms, database & teleconferencing.
  • Fluence in Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog or Korean is a plus. 
  • Must have a reliable car and car insurance. A monthly car allowance is provided. 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Ability to travel in California, ability to work extended and irregular hours, and work remotely, if needed
  • Valid drivers’ license, use of a car for work, and specified automobile insurance coverage are mandatory
  • Work is generally performed in an office setting with prolonged periods of sitting and work on computer
  • All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and report their vaccination status as a condition of employment.
  • All employees must abide by USWW Safety Guidelines, including the required use of face covering while working.

Salary & Benefits: 

  • Salary is competitive and negotiable based on experience. (Based on Staff Union Contract)
