The Writers Guild of America, East, AFL-CIO (WGAE) is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news and online media. The Guild negotiates and administers contracts that protect the creative and economic rights of its members; conducts programs, seminars and events on issues of interest to writers; and presents writers’ views to various bodies of government.

Job Description:
The Guild is seeking a full-time Controller. Ideal candidates should possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform multiple tasks, demonstrate initiative and forward planning in completing projects, resolving issues, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.


  • All accounting functions including bank reconciliations, audit work papers, assist/coordinate external audit, general ledger entries, Month End, Budget preparation, payables, receivables, expense reports, investment tracking, fixed asset tracking, LM-2 reporting, Sales Tax Reporting, Form 5500 Report
  • Preparing Annual operating budget
  • Tracking and reporting of income and expenses related to fellowships, grants and special events
  • Payroll, new hire onboarding, HR compliance, and P/R CYE W2 Reconciliation.
  • Policies and Procedures management
  • Maintain the schedule of insurance policy renewals etc.
  • Special Projects when asked
  • Executive Committee reporting (Budget tracking, council reports, Earnings Reports, reports from member database on demand)

Required Qualifications:

  • Accounting Degree
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Preferred knowledge of Department of Labor requirements
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft office software, specifically Excel
  • Preferred knowledge of Business Central and SQL programs
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with a variety of different people and provide excellent customer service through good phone and written communication
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational skills, excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Work well with a team and independently
  • Understand and support the mission and values of a Labor Union
