Job Title: Field Organizer
Salary Range: $87,000-$111,000 (based on salary scale which depends on experience)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Hours: Weekdays, few weekends
Bargaining Unit: California Staff Organization (CSO)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Highly motivated person who is committed to building strong working class networks and willing to join a very collaborative and active staff culture. Spending the majority of their time away from an office setting, candidates should be skilled and experienced in engaging all types of educators, school and work area communities as well as relating to and empathizing with San Francisco families. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visit school sites and work areas a min. of 3 days per week
  • Conduct worksite meetings, offsite meetings, and house visits with workers
  • Collaborates with Staff Reps and Officers to support two-way communication between UESF and our members
  • Identify member leaders, their issues and possible obstacles in order to move them into action
  • Responsible for supporting the implementation of the approved campaign plans
  • Regularly tracks organizing in database
  • Designs and implements organizing trainings for members
  • Supports community organizing when requested
  • Preparing reports that utilize accurate numbers, on union member numbers, and submitting weekly goals reports to Officers
  • Develop weekly and monthly strategic plans based on overall campaign goals
  • Reports to the President or the President’s designee
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least three years of prior organizing experience
  • Self motivation and can work independently
  • Driver’s license and own vehicle
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people, learn and adapt, and mobilize/capacity-building within an organization
  • Willingness to receive additional training if offered
  • Computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Suite, database platforms and the ability to do web–based research
  • Experience as an advocate for public education or labor/social justice issues
  • Strong oral/written communications, interpersonal relations, team building and collaboration skills

In addition, any of the following are favorable:

  • Bilingual English-Spanish or Bilingual English-Chinese

WORKING CONDITIONS
May be required to work long and irregular hours, at times work on weekends with approved compensatory time. There is a culture of life and work balance but consistency is expected.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
This position includes a generous salary and benefits package in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement of the California Staff Organization.
