HR Generalist

Job Title: HR Generalist
Location: Headquarters – Oakland, CA
Job Classification: Part-Time (25 hours), Permanent, Non-Union, Non-Exempt

Purpose:
We are looking for an HR Generalist to support our Human Resources department within a union environment.

Your main duties will include maintaining personnel files, managing HR documents (i.e. employment records and onboarding guides), support benefits administration and updating internal databases. Our ideal candidate has experience supporting confidential and classified information and can juggle various tasks in a timely manner.

Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our HR department supports both represented and unrepresented employees while conforming to labor laws.

Primary Responsibilities (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

  • Organize and maintain personnel files
  • Update internal databases (i.e. manage accruals, and leaves)
  • Prepare HR documents, like Personnel Action Forms (PAF), Offer Letters and HR related emails
  • Liaise with external partners, like insurance vendors, and ensure legal compliance
  • Support the HR Manager in researching employee queries about HR-related issues
  • Partner with Finance department by providing relevant employee information (e.g. leaves of absence, sick days and work schedules)
  • Participate in HR projects (i.e. file digitization)
  • Assist with full cycle benefits management
  • Respond to HR related inquiries
  • Ad Hoc HR duties as assigned

Directions and Decision Making
This position reports to the HR Manager. Direct supervision will be from the HR Manager; direction may come from the Controller or Executive Director. HR Generalists are expected to report regularly to the HR Manager.
 
Education and Experience

  • Proven work experience as an HR Generalist, HR Assistant or relevant work experience
  • Computer literacy (MS Office applications, in particular)
  • Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize important projects
  • Strong phone, email and in-person communication skills
  • BS in Human Resources, relevant field or 4 years of related Admin experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license, auto insurance with business coverage, and an automobile for business use.

Physical Requirements (as required by ADA)

  • Must be able to lift 10lbs or less

Work is performed in a variety of employment settings. Driving, travel, temporary assignments, irregular and extended work hours are required.
