Government Affairs Assistant

Based in Washington, DC


Since 1977, the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, AFL-CIO (PASS) has represented more than 11,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD) who install, maintain, support and certify air traffic control and national defense equipment, inspect and oversee the commercial and general aviation industries, develop flight procedures, and perform quality analyses of complex aviation systems used in air traffic control and national defense in the United States and abroad.

PASS seeks a Government Affairs Assistant who will report to and support the Director of Government Affairs. This position will also provide support to PASS’s legal staff.


  • Monitor and track federal legislation and hearings on aviation, federal employee and labor issues.
  • Conduct legislative research, write talking points, memos and issue papers.
  • Participate in association and coalition meetings.
  • Work with PASS members on legislative grassroots activities.
  • Political action committee (PAC) recordkeeping and Federal Election Commission (FEC) report preparation.
  • Assist attorneys with case management to ensure all timelines are met and the organization’s databases are accurate and up to date.
  • Work with regional and local contract representatives to ensure that case files are complete.


  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
  • Experience or educational background in government or legislative affairs.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a wide array of tasks under various deadlines.
  • Demonstration of program management, casework and/or other administrative skills.


  • Knowledge of labor unions and/or the aviation industry.
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)

Duties will typically be performed at the national office but telework and occasional travel is possible. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate to skills and experience; a full benefits package is available for full-time employees.
