Union Organizer (Temp to Hire) Hiring Event

We represent more than 45,000 long-term care workers providing quality in-home care, nursing home care, and adult day health services in Washington State and Montana.

In This Position:
If you are new to organizing or have an interest in learning more about unions, this is the perfect opportunity to work with a progressive union and get valuable organizing experience. In these Organizer positions you will have the opportunity to work with two dynamic Organizing teams at SEIU 775 - our Growth Organizing Department and our Field Organizing Team.

With our Growth Organizing Department

  • You will help workers form unions by identifying and developing worker leaders,
  • Engage with workers 1-on-1 and in groups, and by mobilizing members and the community to help organize unorganized workers.
  • Growth Organizers also work in coalition with other unions and community groups to support low-wage worker organizing across industries and across the region and country.

With our Field Organizing Department

  • You will work with existing union members to identify and activate leaders and strengthen our overall membership in coordination with a statewide communications and political program.  
  • Our Field Organizers mentor, coach, teach, and foster the talents of our members, who are low-wage home care workers.
  • SEIU 775 field organizers are on the frontlines of building the strength of our membership through individual skills and leadership development, recruitment to events, and coaching and training opportunities.

Union Organizers hired at SEIU 775 gain valuable experience and skills by working on fast-paced and exciting organizing campaigns. SEIU 775 is committed to creating an environment where organizers have the opportunity to grow and develop their organizing skills through mentorship, development programs and on the ground training.

About Position:

  • Hiring Event Date: Thursday, April 6th, 2023.

  • Interest in building power for low wage workers by organizing strong unions
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice
  • Strong interpersonal and 1-on-1 communication skills
  • Union organizing or community-based organizing experience preferred but not required
  • Bi-lingual skilled candidates encouraged to apply
  • Understanding about how to find and activate workplace leaders

Pay:

  • Starting at $65,500 per year

Benefits:

  • $150 Mobile (per month)
  • $50 Wi-Fi (per month)
  • $500 Vehicle Allowance (per month)
  • Fully employer-paid family health, dental, vision and pharmacy benefits (including domestic partners of same or opposite sex),
  • 1 day of PTO (per month)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently & with a team
  • Willingness to conduct work site visits and home visits
  • Strong planning, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn necessary technology tools
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
  • A drivers’ license, a car, automobile insurance, and a cell phone with NW regional coverage
  • The ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment

Compensation:
This position is temporary, full time, exempt. Pay ranges from $65,500 – $75,350 per year. Benefits include fully paid health, dental, vision, and 1 day of PTO per month, WFH credit during pandemic, and more.
