Human Resource Specialist

Based in Lansing, MI


The Human Resources Specialist will administer routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including posting job openings, on boarding new staff and employee benefits.


  • Interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
  • Post job openings as necessary
  • Review employment applications and job orders to match applicants with job requirements.
  • Inform job applicants of details such as duties and responsibilities, compensation, benefits, schedules, working conditions, or promotion opportunities.
  • Select qualified job applicants or refer them to managers, making hiring recommendations when appropriate.
  • Hire employees and process hiring-related paperwork.
  • Schedule or conduct new employee orientations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Prepare or maintain employment records related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using human resources management system software.
  • Address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
  • Maintain and update human resources documents, such as organizational charts, employee handbooks or directories, or performance evaluation forms.
  • Confer with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures.
  • Conduct exit interviews and ensure that necessary employment termination paperwork is completed.
  • Administer employee benefit plans.
  • Coordinate background checks/drug screen/physicals for new hires
  • Assist and/or develop programs, projects and special assignments
  • Partner with HR Team on creating and implementing employee activities
  • I-9 Audits and E-Verify
  • Annual EE0-1 Filing
  • Analyze and compile HR data into reports and presentations as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned by the COO


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum two years of experience in HR field
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
  • Understanding the importance of employee and company confidentiality
  • Good computer software skills
  • Knowledge of laws governing human resource issues
  • Must be able to travel
  • Ability to work under pressure while multi-tasking
  • Excellent oral, written, listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with multiple levels of people effectively, in group and individual settings
  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational skills and the ability to self-manage and prioritize a dynamic workload

SALARY RANGE: $60,000 to $70,000
