Social Media / Communications Specialist / Strategist

The Motion Picture Editors Guild (MPEG) is a national labor organization currently representing over 8,000 freelance and staff post-production professionals that are located across the country. Ours is the world's premier craft guild that sets the standards for excellence in the post-production industry.

MPEG negotiates new collective bargaining agreements (union contracts) and enforces existing agreements with employers involved in post-production. We help with securing better conditions, including but not limited to financial (better pay), medical (better health insurance), safety (turnaround time), and artistic concerns (assignment of credit).

The Guild is seeking a talented Social Media/Communications Specialist/Strategist to administer our social media accounts and assist with online and print publications. This position is located in Los Angeles. You will be responsible for creating original text and video content, managing posts and responding to followers. We expect you to be up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social-media trends. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to express our union’s mission creatively. Ultimately, you should be able to handle our social media presence ensuring high levels of web traffic and user engagement.

In addition to the social media aspects, you will be assigned work from time to time to assist the Communications Director with our print and web magazine and with email and other internal communications from the executive staff to the membership, as needed. We are looking for an innovator. We are seeking someone who understands the different ways we communicate on the different platforms and their respective social paradigms.

The Guild recognizes that this will be our most important asset moving forward if we want to stay relevant with the members. This individual will discover what social issues the Guild is trying to solve and then present a social media campaign that is both relevant and engaging. They will also have a more accurate thumb on the pulse of what the members are talking about and how they are doing it. We need someone to keep the conversation going and be able to dynamically flow with the ever-evolving social paradigm.

This position will report to our Director of Communications. Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Accountabilities Include, But Not Limited To

  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences
  • Design and implement social media strategy to align with business goals
  • Set specific objectives and report on ROI
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news)
  • Communicate with followers, respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor customer reviews
  • Oversee social media accounts’ design (e.g. Facebook timeline cover, profile pictures and blog layout)
  • Suggest and implement new features to develop and promote awareness of the Guild’s activities, its goals as a union and its standing in the entertainment industry
  • Stay up to date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications requirements
  • Have a broad understanding of editorial communications, including the basics of website and blog content management, as well as some familiarity with print communication

Education And Experience

  • Proven work experience as a social media manager
  • Hands-on experience in content management
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video)
  • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics
  • Knowledge of online marketing channels
  • Familiarity with web design and print production
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Analytical and multitasking skills
  • BA degree in marketing, journalism, communications or related field
  • Previous experience working with a union a plus
  • Ability to create short promo clips desired
