Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Department Director of International Affairs, the fellow/intern position provides support for the AFT’s international program that focuses on human rights and labor rights advocacy, multi-lateral collaborations with like-minded unions around the world, tracking policy developments at international organizations like OECD, UNESCO, and ILO. The responsibilities are primarily research, writing and data collection.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Writing and distributing a monthly newsletter for PSI/North America
  • Organizing quarterly meetings of the PSI Education Support Network International Tack Force
  • Preparing briefing books for international travel by the President and other elected AFT leaders
  • Organizing a one-day international seminar at MIT on the future of work
  • Participating in supportive role assignments under the direction of the department.

Primary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work independently with precision to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Well organized, able to work collaboratively and display good judgement given general guidelines.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
  • Familiarity with unions and/or non-profit associations is preferred.

Work Environment:
The work is performed in an office environment near Capitol Hill in Washington DC, convenient to public transportation; 30-37 hours a week; private workspace in communal department; observing all COVID safety protocols.
