Prerequisites

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently in the context of a general plan.
  • Experience with political campaigns, union organizing and/or related experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency in order to perform necessary campaign data management and administrative work along with the ability to learn the organization's technology tools.
  • Willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the Labor Council’s core values in his/her day-to-day work.
  • Ability to frame issues and articulate organizational values and priorities.
  • Ability to articulate how a union works.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description
The San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council represents over 200,000 working families from over 130 unions across San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Labor Council is seeking a qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the role of Field and Campaign Organizer.

Duties Responsibilities
Applicants for the position should possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to multitask and meet deadlines. Applicants should be available for regional travel as necessary and must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and be willing to work extended hours and weekends. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Implement electoral campaign plans for assigned campaigns.
  • Build, Plan, and Track community and electoral relationships with direct supervision.
  • Plan work as assigned; make and execute daily, weekly, and monthly work plans based on assigned goals and objectives.
  • Assist in developing member leaders through conducting basic trainings.
  • Planning and carrying out actions and events to support worker organizing efforts.
  • Complete all required reporting of data, member outreach, etc.
  • Serve as liaison with local unions.
  • Any duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • Computer proficiency.
  • Experience with PDI or other voter data management system.
  • Must possess a strong dedication to progressive values.
  • Deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Miscellaneous

  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends
  • Self-starter.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the urgent nature and time demands of campaigns.
  • High ethical standards.
  • The ability to exercise discretion.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work productively in a team.
  • Ensure outstanding representation of the organization to internal and external allies and constituents.

Compensation
The Labor Council offers competitive compensation and benefits as determined by the staff union contract. Benefits include but are not limited to employer paid medical and pension, paid vacation and holidays.
