Internal Organizer

Based in Philadelphia, PA

Job Description (including but not limited to):
Local 77 would like to engage an organizer to assist with the modernization and implementation of a meaningful and effective member orientation program, with an organizing focus. In addition to this program, the Organizer would instruct a series of half day training sessions that are tailored to the specific needs of Local 77 committee members.

The material intended to be covered in each of these training sessions may include:

  • Workplace mapping
  • Leadership identification
  • Power structure analysis
  • Turning an issue into a campaign

This position is a part-time 180-day remote position, with the potential of continued engagement beyond the 180 days. Hours are flexible and can be by appointment only, if necessary.

The compensation for this position is itemized below.

  • Creation of program–Powerpoint presentation & supplemental documentation
    Fourteen (14) hours @ $100/hr.
  • Training Local 77 staff members to successfully employ the presentation
    Fourteen (14) hours @ $100/hr.
  • Implementation of orientation program
    Four (4) 2-hour sessions @ $312.50/session
  • Orchestra Committee organizing training
    Twelve (12) half day training sessions @ $550/session plus preparation

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma and 6 months to 3 years of union organizing experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles
  • Leadership and motivational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Google Workstation, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Knowledge of anti-union employer tactics.
  • Basic knowledge of labor laws, especially with respect to union organizing.
