The NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO (NYC CLC) is a non-profit labor membership organization devoted to supporting, advancing, and advocating for the working people of New York City. As the nation's largest regional labor federation, the NYC CLC brings together 300 local unions from every trade, occupation, public and private sector of the New York economy. We represent 1.3 million workers, including teachers, truck drivers, operating engineers, nurses, construction workers, electricians, firefighters, retail workers, janitors, train operators, bakers, and many more who are the backbone of today’s workforce.

The Executive Assistant to the President acts as the primary administrative professional working with the CLC’s President. This position requires excellent administrative, interpersonal, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple responsibilities, work independently, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities. This position will report directly to the President and Chief of Staff.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: (include, but are not limited to)

  • Screen Executive Office phone calls, take detailed messages, and return phone calls;
  • Coordinate with individuals requesting meetings with the President;
  • Set up and maintain the President’s calendar and coordinate travel arrangements;
  • Ensure that the President receives appropriate materials in advance of all meetings, as well as preparing any appropriate follow-up correspondence for the various meetings;
  • Prepare and review correspondence and memoranda, using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
  • Coordinate Executive Board and Committee meetings and materials;
  • Coordinate with staff to attend events/receptions with the President or representing the CLC, when tickets are purchased by the CLC;
  • Completion and submission of expense reports for the President;
  • Assist in additional administration duties in absence/support of Office Coordinator.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years’ experience, preferably supporting a senior‐level position
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Clear and concise spoken and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to work independently or with a group
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, must be able to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Docs and Sheets, and database systems to create and properly finalize documents related to duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting needs, handle matters expeditiously, proactively and follow through on multiple tasks and projects to successful completion

Location:
The CLC office is centrally located in midtown west and is currently working in a hybrid model with a mix of remote and in-office work.

Compensation:
Salary range is approximately $70,000 – $90,000 annually. Benefits include health, pension, and 401K. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with OPEIU Local 153.
