Staff Accountant

INTRODUCTION
SEIU Local105 is now hiring a Staff Accountant to support our work building power for workers in the Denver Metro Area. SEIU Local 105 is on the cutting edge of progressive activism, building the power of low-wage workers and engaging in larger social issues such as immigration and health care. SEIU Local 105 represents over 7,000 property services, healthcare, and mental health workers. The Union is home to the Justice for Janitors and Stand for Security, campaigns that have successfully improved the lives of thousands of low wage and immigrant workers throughout the country.

Local 105 is a medium-sized Local that is actively expanding our work through multiple industry groups and new organizing campaigns. We are looking for someone with excellent creative problem-solving skills, strong customer service skills, and excellent attention to detail. This person will also have strong technical skills in a database environment, and the ability to work independently, as well as part of the larger organization.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process monthly bills, including pension, benefits bills/contributions, and expense reimbursements.
  • Monthly credit card reporting and reconciliation.
  • Prepare check runs to be approved for payment, then process and mail signed checks.
  • Process membership dues received and work with Membership Specialist to insure regular, timely payment.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including reviewing for accuracy and consistency against prior months.
  • Maintain QuickBooks file for the company, including maintaining an accurate Chart of Accounts and coding entries to the correct accounts.
  • Prepare monthly per capita and COPE reports and process payments.
  • Provide support during the annual audit/LM-2/Form 990 preparation.
  • Prepare various financial reports within due dates.
  • Be proactive in recommending improvements to processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required. An Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field may be considered with the right experience.
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of double-entry bookkeeping concepts.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Keeping accurate records and reporting on payables and/or receivables activity.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, with accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • A strong work ethic.

Compensation:

  • Hourly pay rate $25.18 to $30.09 based on experience.
  • Full employer paid benefits package including health insurance, pension plan, and paid vacation.
