Labor Compliance Investigator

Based out of Northern California


Description: Become well versed in federal, state and local labor laws as they apply to construction projects. Monitor contractor and subcontractor activity to insure they comply with federal and/or state labor requirements through job site inspections. Enforce labor laws including wage theft, tax fraud, workers compensation insurance fraud, contractor license laws and regulations, workplace safety violations and the Public Contract Code. Assist workers when they are impacted by these crimes. Visit or contact workers on their off hours to conduct interviews. File cases with the appropriate agency to enforce applicable labor laws. Follow up on cases filed with agencies. Monitor upcoming construction bids. Attend bid openings to verify there are no irregularities in the public bidding process.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn to analyze construction data, certified payroll records, inspector logs, etc.
  • Must be able to initiate and complete tasks with little supervision once directed
  • Ability to maneuver safely through active construction sites
  • Ability to work individually and as a team
  • Ability to work irregular hours
  • Travel within Northern California and to Las Vegas, sometimes including overnight stays
  • Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record

Work Environment: Fast paced union environment. Time is split between office and field work. The NCCRC is dedicated to organizing work for our local unions’ members and to engaging workers employed in carpentry and allied trades in building their power.

Salary & Benefits: This FLSA-exempt position’s salary is scaled to the year-round full-time equivalent of a northern California Bridge Builder/Highway Carpenter journeyperson’s wages. Compensation adjusts in parallel with the Carpenters master labor agreement. Excellent fringe benefits include a family health plan, defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans, holidays, and paid time-off. A vehicle is provided for job-related travel, with an option for personal use. The NCCRC provides training that advances the organization’s mission.
