Communications Assistant

The International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600 is the largest camera and publicist union in the world with over 8,000 members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. We are a National Local of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE). Applications are now being accepted for a Communications Assistant. This position will be based out of the Western Region, located in our Los Angeles Office.

Title: Communications Assistant

Salary: This position is covered by OPEIU 174-IATSE 600 CBA

DEFINITION/STANDARDS:
Under the direction of the Communications Manager, this position will be responsible for assisting the Communications department. The department oversees the Guild’s websites, email communications, ICG Magazine, virtual panels, social media, and public relations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide general administrative support to the communications department
  • Maintain and update communications calendar
  • Gather content from all three regions for weekly newsletter
  • Generate first drafts of communications to members using an email template for review
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and reports
  • Maintain a database of communications (email blasts, newsletters, 600LIVE! stories, ICG magazine articles, press releases, presentations)
  • Assist in updating web content and maintaining all social media content and channels as needed
  • Set up and administer large online meetings and assist members with troubleshooting
  • Respond to basic member and staff inquiries and / or requests
  • Organize and maintain all documents for the team
  • Take meeting notes and provide timely follow-up
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Communications Manager

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree/2 years of experience in related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Microsoft 365, Mailchimp, Online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Excellent communicational skills - both written and verbal
  • An eagle eye - paying close attention to details
  • An organizing genius!
  • Ability to work with confidential documents
  • Basic knowledge of content management systems (CMS) and HTML
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in a team-based environment and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve deadlines under pressure
  • Flexible to work weekends and overtime
  • Previous union experience a plus!

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
2 years of experience as a Communications Assistant in a labor union or entertainment industry

LICENSE AND PHYSICAL CLASS:
A valid Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Ability to lift-up to 20lbs.

Local 174-IATSE Local 600 CBA. Excellent starting salary, commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package.
