The UC Merced Community and Labor Center is at the forefront of research and the convening of San Joaquin Valley community, labor, and environmental groups. We conduct research and education on issues of community, labor and employment, in the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. Our work has been cited regularly by advocacy groups, coalitions, and policymakers, in local, state, national and international media.

DESCRIPTION
On behalf of the UC Merced Community and Labor Center, the Assistant Specialist will conduct social science or legal research on COVID-19 and health policy issues in the San Joaquin Valley region. Under the supervision of the principal investigator, the assistant specialist will conduct data collection; analyze data; write papers; and engage in public service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, including data collection, analysis and writing. Public service, including liaising with public agencies and San Joaquin Valley community-based organizations on issues related to COVID-19 and health policy.

START/END DATE
10/1/2021 – 03/31/2022

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a Master's Degree in public health or a social science-related field; or five to ten years of experience; or a law degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate, write and edit with strong attention to detail and quality control, for scholarly, policy, and popular audiences. (Recommended)
  • Demonstrated written, oral, and visual communication skills to translate data and policy issues into easy-to-understand policy recommendations. (Recommended)
