The UC Merced Community and Labor Center is at the forefront of research and the convening of San Joaquin Valley community, labor, and environmental groups. Our core team has a wealth of experience with successful, historic initiatives that have expanded the rights of those furthest on the margins. We conduct research and education on issues of community, labor and employment, in the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. Our work has been cited regularly by advocacy groups, coalitions, and policymakers, in local, state, national and international media.

DESCRIPTION
On behalf of the UC Merced Community and Labor Center, the Associate Specialist will conduct social science or legal research on issues related to the San Joaquin Valley’s low-income workers and residents, and the environment. Under the supervision of the co-principal investigator, Edward Flores, Associate Professor of Sociology, UC Merced Community and Labor Center, the associate specialist will: conduct data collection; analyze data; write papers; and engage in public service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Research, including data collection, analysis and writing. Public service, including liaising with and responding to the needs of the Kern County High Roads Training Partnership coalition.

START/END DATE
10/1/2021-03/31/2023

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a Master's Degree in a social science and five to ten years of experience; or a law degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate, write and edit with strong attention to detail and quality control, for scholarly, policy, and popular audiences. (Recommended)
  • Demonstrated written, oral, and visual communication skills to translate data and policy issues into easy-to-understand policy recommendations. (Recommended)
