The Montgomery County Education Association is seeking candidates for a new position in its Public Affairs Department.

POSITION TITLE: Organizational Specialist, Public Affairs
BARGAINING UNIT: Professional Staff Organization
REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Public Affairs
STARTING SALARY: $78,830.09

JOB DEFINITION:
We are looking for a driven Public Affairs Specialist to attract and interact with targeted communities and MCEA members. The incumbent will serve as a Public Affairs strategist and social media coordinator for MCEA’s Public Affairs Department. The ideal candidate will contribute to MCEA’s social media strategy, messaging development, content curation and execution, and content performance and evaluation and will oversee the MCEA website.

This person will, also, contribute to and support MCEA’s community engagement and advocacy work, which includes collaboration on MCEA’s efforts to listen to communities we serve to impact education policy.

Responsibilities

  1. Build and execute social media strategies through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
  2. Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, video, or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to act.
  3. Set up and optimize company pages within each platform to increase the visibility of MCEA’s social content.
  4. Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each community.
  5. Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules.
  6. Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights, and best practices, and then acting on the information.
  7. Collaborate with other departments to manage reputation, identify key players, and coordinate actions.
  8. Effectively utilize all forms of media to help create and implement a streamlined communication strategy.
  9. In coordination with the Managing Director and other Public Affairs staff, provide support to special-focus organization-wide and/or community-wide activities. Such support may include planning, publications, media, and special events.
  10. Utilize effective technical abilities to report metrics for digital media campaigns.
  11. Perform other related duties as required/assigned by the Managing Director, Public Affairs and the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  1. Proven working experience in social media marketing or as a Digital Media Specialist
  2. Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
  3. Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
  4. Adequate knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO
  5. Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
  6. Positive attitude, detail and customer-oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability
  7. Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required
  8. BS in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, or Public Relations preferred or equivalent work experience

REQUIREMENTS

  • Salaried position; requires nonstandard work hours and/or weekend and holiday work.
  • Travel is required, primarily within Montgomery County.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, must have auto insurance that covers business driving, and must possess an automobile for business use.

COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement. MCEA also provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage, retirement savings plan, and long-term disability insurance.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Work is performed in a variety of settings – in schools, school district offices, a typical office work environment.
  • This position requires frequent driving throughout the county to various locations.
  • Must be able to occasionally remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to regularly move about inside the office and other locations.
  • Constantly operates a computer, cell phone, and office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer.
  • Frequently moves equipment & supplies weighing up to 25 pounds for various meeting and event needs.
