Campaign Director

Based in Minneapolis, MN


Location: MFT Office
Hours/status: Full-time-Exempt
Position will report to the American Federation of Teachers
Position is open until filled.

Purpose of position:
The Campaign Director will work with staff/leaders on internal organizing, assist in the implementation of the joint bargaining campaign for the 2021-23 Teacher Chapter and ESP Chapter contracts, oversee implementation of MFT’s community organizing plan, and work on other strategic initiatives as needed.

Major functions and responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing joint bargaining campaign by supporting site-based leaders’ goals and supporting work site structure tests and actions.
  • Support leadership development efforts for Contract Action Team members.
  • Support MFT’s community organizing plan by overseeing work of staff engaged in community-based work and ensuring fidelity to affiliate requirements.
  • Leadership development of members in the community work of MFT.
  • Assist in preparation for bargaining.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience in developing union contract organizing plans.
  • Experience running structure-based union contract campaigns.
  • Familiarity with the bargaining process.
  • Experience in overseeing leadership development activities for a wide range of members.
  • Experience in working with confidential and sensitive information and issues.
  • Ability to work with technology and information systems.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five years of union organizing experience.
  • Demonstrable experience running a union contract campaign.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing ambitious contract campaigns.
  • Experience working on/leading union strikes.
