Organizing Internship
(January - May 2022 - 10-40 hours/week based on availability)

Job Description
The position of Organizing Intern works on and leads campaigns to organize non-member State of Nebraska employees into union membership. Organizers are committed to helping workers win social and economic justice on the job through building a strong union. Organizing Interns may be considered for full time employment at the completion of their internship.

Job Duties
Organizing interns are responsible for all aspects of assisting on union organizing campaigns, including campaign start-up, committee building, assessments, developing literature, running meetings and workplace actions.

Organizing interns will plan and execute site visits, campaigns, and other organizing events. Additionally, interns will recruit, train, and assist union members and leaders. Interns will work with coalition partners including lobbyists, politicians, other unions, and affiliated groups.

Qualifications/Who Should Apply?

  • A commitment to social and economic justice and grassroots organizing.
  • An ability to empathize with others and move workers to action.
  • Leadership experience.
  • A willingness to travel across Nebraska.
  • A willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends in order to achieve campaign goals.
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Upperclass student or recent graduate preferred, but willing to consider all applicants.

Salary & Hours
Organizing Interns will be paid $15/hour and may be scheduled between 10-40 hours/week based on availability.

Founded in 1972, the union was instrumental in securing collective bargaining rights for state employees in the 1980s.
