Director of Field Services

Based in Lincoln, NE


Job Description
The Director of Field Services leads our field staff and campaigns, conducts representation work such as grievance handling & collective bargaining matters, builds union capacity through teaching and empowering member leaders, and works with elected officials on behalf of our members. This management position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Job Duties
Provides leadership for all aspects of our field services team. Develops organizing campaigns. Conducts contract negotiations. Represents members in arbitration hearings and before the Nebraska State Personnel Board. Works with politicians including legislators and the governor's office to advocate for state employees and the citizens we serve. Works with and develops relationships between our union and affiliated/allied organizations.

  • Experience working on campaigns with a labor union, public policy, or non-profit organization.
  • Experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience representing union members at arbitration and similar hearings
  • Experience lobbying politicians and elected officials
  • The willingness to work long/irregular hours including nights and weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of union staff experience

The Nebraska Association of Public Employees/AFSCME Local 61 represents nearly 9,000 employees of the State of Nebraska, Nebraska State College System, Nebraska Department of Education, and Richardson County. Founded in 1972, the union was instrumental in securing collective bargaining rights for state employees in the 1980s.
