About the role
We are seeking a talented and creative team member to join SEIU 775’s Communications and Marketing Team. SEIU 775’s mission is to unite the strength of all working people and our families, to improve our lives and lead the way to a more just and humane world. We represent more than 45,000 long-term care workers providing quality in-home care, nursing home care and adult day health services in Washington State and Montana. We are a leader in the progressive community and take bold and aggressive approaches to politics and organizing.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, write, and edit copy including, but not limited to, web content, social media content, flyers, emails, mailers, and newsletters.
  • Strategize, lead, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a range of teams and varying priorities.
  • Collaborate and clearly communicate with the graphic designer throughout a project to create communications that meet the desired outcome.
  • Interview caregivers and tell their stories through a variety of mediums.
  • Take photos and videos at Union events, as needed and as permitted during COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Create simple graphics for a variety of mediums including, but not limited to, social media, webpages, and emails, as needed.
  • Media relations, as needed.
  • Sometimes work long, irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and overnight travel as required and as permitted during COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Ability to write in different voices.
  • Have a passion for strategic communications.
  • Be highly collaborative and self-directed.
  • Be detail-oriented and enjoy grammar.
  • Have a commitment to our membership and social justice.
  • Possess a good eye for layout and design.
  • Ability to learn from feedback and produce in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two to five years of experience in communications, marketing and/or organizing communications position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as communications specialist
  • Experience in copywriting and editing
  • Experience in web design and content production is a plus
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Experience with or desire to learn the Adobe Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
  • Organizational and planning abilities

Salary Range: $61,080 – $73,296
