WeTrain Washington is a newly formed training, education, and career development non-profit, founded by Washington’s largest private sector union UFCW Local 21, that provides high-quality programs and services to current and future 21 members, union employers, and community members in the retail grocery, healthcare, cannabis, and food processing industries. WeTrain Washington programs aim to promote job quality, economic security, workforce equity and career pathways for participants through employment pathways for underrepresented communities, upskilling and leadership development training for incumbent workers, the creation and expansion of skilled apprenticeship programs, and the development of training benefits programs for workers.

About the role
WeTrain Washington is seeking a mission-driven leader to fill the role of Training Director. This role is a key stakeholder in the operational success of the Training Department, a newly funded department focused on designing and overseeing all learning, training, and development programs within the organization.

The Training Director’s responsibilities include identifying training needs based on skills gap analyses, developing group and individual learning courses and managing the training budget. To be successful in this role, you should have solid experience organizing trainings and designing the educational curriculum.

Essential Functions

  • Manages training program from creation to launch to evaluation
  • Develops new program initiatives and curriculum
  • Contributes to needs assessment research, designing surveys, running focus groups and setting up interviews to inform program design
  • Project manages curriculum development
  • Hires and supervises program facilitators
  • Manage quarterly and annual training budget
  • Presents on program to funders, board and key stakeholders.
  • Develops program marketing and information materials
  • Directs and participates in collaborative efforts with other city, county, regional and state agencies and organizations
  • Represents the organization in the community, including media, funding sources, public and private government entities, and individuals
  • Evaluates the results of learning courses and effectiveness of training programs
  • Recommends new training methods (including e-learning courses and game-based platforms)
  • Introduces and operates an effective Learning Management System (LMS)

Qualifications

  • Have a master’s degree in a relevant field plus at least five years of progressive supervision, management and leadership experience in labor or worker education; Or Bachelors with at least 10 years relevant experience
  • Knowledge in the following areas is required: experience with adult or worker education, curriculum development, oral and written communications, planning and evaluation and leading with equity and inclusion.
  • Has work experience as a Training Director, Training Manager or similar role
  • Has an in-depth understanding of traditional and modern training methods (including workshops, simulations, e-learning and coaching)
  • Has hands-on experience with project management and budgeting
  • Has experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Can demonstrate critical competencies in four broad categories: business results-driven, leading people through change, building consensus across dimensions of difference and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in the field of labor, non-profit management and governance, public policy work, and community relations is preferred
  • Shares WeTrain Washington values, mission, and vision, consistently displays integrity, models behavior, develops people and builds teams and deals effectively with demanding situations.
  • Has an excellent track record leading, communicating, and engaging employees through continuity, change, and transition
  • Can communicate effectively across community and cultural differences
  • Has demonstrated experience in fund and resource development, strong human relations, communications, and problem-solving skills
  • Has leadership experience in non-profit community and possess an intimate understanding of funding sources
  • Has a deep experience working with unions and understands union culture
  • Is excited about working in a startup environment

Pay: $85,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
