About the Organization
WeTrain Washington is a newly formed training, education, and career development non-profit, founded by Washington’s largest private sector union UFCW Local 21, that provides high-quality programs and services to current and future 21 members, union employers, and community members in the retail grocery, healthcare, cannabis, and food processing industries. WeTrain Washington programs aim to promote job quality, economic security, workforce equity, and career pathways for participants through employment pathways for underrepresented communities, upskilling and leadership development training for incumbent workers, the creation and expansion of skilled apprenticeship programs, and the development of training benefits programs for workers.

About the Role
WeTrain Washington is seeking a mission-driven leader to fill the role of Operations Director. This role is a key stakeholder in the operational success of the organization, responsible for all aspects of business from office management, people services, organizational policy and practices creation, and finance and administration.

As an ideal candidate, you have proven senior management experience in a highly dynamic setting. Your organizational, communication and leadership skills are second to none and you enjoy developing solutions that push innovative boundaries. You’ll work closely with executives to strategize and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success at WeTrain.

Essential Functions

  • Defines, implements, and revises operational policies and guidelines for the organization
  • Develops and executes new growth directives
  • Oversees and administers all Human Resources functions to include, but are not limited to, recruiting, training and development, wage/benefit administration, compliance with statutory requirements, team member relations, performance evaluations, workers compensation and safety, affirmative action compliance, employment processes and general leadership guidance and support
  • Oversees all benefits administration, including coordination of medical and dental plans and other benefits as needed
  • Acts as point of contact for consultants and contractors
  • Oversees the accounting contractor, works with a consultant to develop and manage our website, and sets up the participant database.
  • Works with the leadership to manage all business functions with a focus on driving revenue growth and managing costs
  • Coordinates with departmental heads to develop financial plans and ensures company-wide operational compliance
  • Keeps track of WeTrain Washington’s revenue margins and conducts budget reviews to maximize net revenue
  • Oversees client support services
  • Manages procurement and resource allocations

Qualifications

  • Have a master’s degree in a relevant field plus at least five years progressive supervision, management and leadership experience in non-profits, labor or adult education; Or Bachelors with at least 10 years relevant experience
  • Knowledge in the following areas is required: experience with working-class communities, operations, finance, human resources, database management, oral and written communications, planning and evaluation, and governance
  • Has work experience as an Operations Director, Human Resources Director, Administration Director or similar role
  • Has an in-depth understanding of traditional business practices
  • Has hands-on experience with project management and budgeting
  • Can demonstrate critical competencies in four broad categories: business results-driven, leading people through change, building consensus across dimensions of difference, commitment to equity, and inclusion
  • Experience in the field of labor, non-profit management and governance, public policy work and community relations is preferred
  • Shares WeTrain Washington values, mission, and vision, consistently displays integrity, models behavior, develops people, and builds teams, and deals effectively with demanding situations
  • Has an excellent track record leading, communicating and engaging employees through continuity, change, and transition
  • Can communicate effectively across community and cultural differences
  • Has leadership experience in the non-profit community and possess an intimate understanding of funding sources
  • Has a deep experience working with unions and understanding union culture
  • Is excited about working in a startup environment

Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
