Member Growth Strategist

Based in Portland, OR

About SEIU 503
SEIU 503 is Oregon’s largest labor union, representing 72,000 care providers and public services workers. We envision a just and vibrant society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and where all people can provide for themselves and their families. We are a local affiliate of the Service Employees International Union, an organization of 2-million members in the U.S.

About The Position
Come be a part of a team committed to transforming long term care jobs into good jobs. This workforce has been historically underpaid and undervalued because of the expectation that women, women of color, and immigrants be expected to do this work for little or no compensation.

Over the last 20 years homecare workers around the country have been forming unions and winning huge improvements. Through joining together in their union, care providers in Oregon have gone from making less than minimum wage with no benefits, to over $15/hour with healthcare, PTO, vision, dental and retirement.

We are looking for a Member Growth Strategist who can lead our work in strategically increasing union membership, developing member leadership programs and leading campaigns and projects in long term care.

Responsibilities
Design and implement member growth strategies in Care Provider units. Support our field team through ongoing training and strategic planning to improve member growth rates. Analyze data to determine areas for improvement and spend time in the field with organizers and members to give feedback to help improve membership rates.

Responsible for developing staff and member leaders in member growth processes and systems. Coordinate the tracking of member growth, new employee orientations, in Salesforce or other relevant databases to assure member growth. This also includes leading the Member Leadership Development Program and working with organizers and members to transition member leaders in and out of the program.

Advise members and staff on strategies and steps to be taken to resolve issues with new member growth. Help develop and lead campaigns and help members develop where appropriate.

Participate in union-wide membership drives, political campaigns and other field activities as assigned which may include worksite visits, phone banking, house visits, door-to-door canvassing and literature drops

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of organizing experience, including experience leading staff and campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership development programs and projects.

  • Capable of using a computer and various software packages.
  • Ability and stamina to work irregular and long hours and attend weekend and evening activities.
  • Valid drivers license and vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Somali, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Romanian, African French. Experience working in long term care and/or other working class jobs.

Pay and Benefits
Comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and leave policies, a monthly car and cell phone allowance, and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $62,352 - $92,664 annually.
