National Controller

Based out of the Western Region, Los Angeles office


The International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600 is the largest camera and publicist union in the world with over 8,000 members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. We are a National Local of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE). Applications are now being accepted for National Controller, Western Region. This position will be based out of the Western Region, Los Angeles office.

Salary: DOE, $90,000 – $120,000 annually

The National Controller is an exempt position located in the National Office but serving the entire union. Under the direction of the National Executive Director and National Director of Administration and in collaboration with the Local’s Secretary Treasury primary responsibilities involve overseeing the accounting, budgeting and auditing functions of the organization as well as performing detailed data and financial analysis. Additional responsibilities including creating monthly and annual financial reports, developing and implementing investment strategies and setting long-term financial goals for Local 600. Providing reports that increase transparency and facilitate the Executive Board and Senior Staff’s understanding of the financial state of Local 600 is also an important function.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounts, ledgers and reporting systems in compliance with appropriate Guild standards and local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain schedules to support accounts in the general ledger such as fixed assets, property ledger, prepaid expenses, deposits, accrued liabilities, deferred revenue.
  • Establish and document implementation of accounting control procedures.
  • Establish proper controls and documentation for purchasing to pass audit.
  • Prepare reports required by governmental and regulatory agencies such as property taxes, licensing, and registrations.
  • Provide financial schedules and records and interface with the Auditors.
  • Process MPI Contributions.
  • Support Secretary-Treasurer and NED in budgeting and planning; financial statements, analyses, comparisons to gauge performance.
  • Work collaboratively with HR payroll reports, MPI and other HR financials.
  • Process Political Action Committee actions and filings
  • Complete and submit Department of Labor filing requirements including LM-2s


  • Work experience as a Controller or similar role
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experienced with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, cash management.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience to include supervisory, controllership or senior accountant capacity.
  • B/A or B/S in Accounting or Finance, CPA or CMA preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, Access, Outlook, Email, Internet, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, organizational skills, both analytical problems solving, and the ability to work with confidential documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, achieve deadlines under pressure and proven ability to perform the duties of the position. Previous union experience a plus
  • Proficient in Accounting software

  • A valid CPA, CMA or other related accounting designation
  • A valid Driver’s License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Ability to lift-up to 20lbs


  • Some night and weekend work
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
  • Experience with elected or appointed Board members
