The Aurora Education Association is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Member Organizer.

Position Description:
The Aurora Education Association is the union for over 1,500 teachers, special service providers and nurses in Aurora Public Schools. Our members are in over 60 schools and sites across the district. This position will require driving to different sites. The Association has an office near I-225 and Parker Road. This position is a twelve month temporary, independent contractor with a focus on member organizing. The role will involve evening and weekend work to meet with educators after their duty day.

The essential functions of this position include collaborating with the Association President, other Association leaders as well as Association staff. The top priority of this position is to increase membership numbers and member engagement in Association actions. In the 2021-2022 school year there will be an election for four School Board seats as well as negotiations for the Association’s full contract.


  • Serve as an organizer in order to increase membership numbers and member engagement.
  • Provide strategic support and content for communications both internal and external, related to AEA organizing campaigns.
  • Develop qualitative and quantitative reports related to assigned work.
  • Collaborate with AEA leaders regarding the execution of programs for membership and organizing.
  • Coordinate with the Program Assistant and UniServ Director.
  • Conduct school visits and organize membership-oriented social events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, Undergraduate Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing, implementing, and winning comprehensive organizing campaigns that have resulted in increased membership, leadership and member engagement.
  • Demonstrated use of sound professional judgment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Proven skills in organization, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency in basic computer technologies, databases, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of membership-based organizations.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, time, and financial resources.
  • Willingness and ability to advocate for the membership and goals of the organization.
  • Characteristics including initiative, self-direction, drive, flexibility, engagement, and a positive attitude with a solution-oriented focus.
  • Ability to provide sound advice and commit to governance’s chosen path.
  • Willingness and ability to drive and work long and/or irregular hours including some weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in public education, such as working in a school district.
  • Association/union experience.
  • Familiarity with the databases such as the VAN and Every Action.
  • Experience supporting political campaigns.
  • Ability to design, produce, and manipulate database reports, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

Compensation and Terms of Position:

  • This is a twelve month contract paid out monthly in the amount of $6,000.
  • This is an Independent Contractor position and will not be an employee of AEA.
  • The Contractor is responsible for their own taxes and insurance.
  • The desired start date is August 16th.
