Connecticut Employees Union Independent, (CEUI), SEUI Local 511, AFL-CIO represents approximately 3,500 maintenance and service workers in the State of Connecticut. CEUI is looking for an individual to join our team as a Political Director

The CEUI Political Director is a position that helps develop and pursue a strategic legislative agenda that supports CEUI members and the broader labor movement.

Required skills:

  • College Degree and/or relevant experience in political science
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple tasks
  • Ability to become a registered lobbyist
  • Ability to work with people of all personalities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours and travel within the state
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Possession of reliable automobile or ability to obtain a reliable automobile

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and/or evaluating proposed state and federal legislation
  • Tracking of proposed legislation during legislative session
  • Lobby legislators regarding matters important to the union membership and the labor movement at large
  • Prepare written fact sheets, letters of support/opposition, and other communications on legislative and administrative issues
  • Advocate for working families before state commissions and boards
  • Respond to affiliated unions needs for support to advance their legislation
  • Represent CEUI at various meetings and events
  • Participate in, organize and convene various CEUI sponsored meetings and trainings
  • Mobilize union members around issues in the upcoming legislative session
  • Build an activist network and increase political activity amongst union membership
  • Fundraise- increase annual donations by members to our Committee on Political Education
  • Ensure members are registered to vote and get out to vote
  • May be required to assist in other related office tasks, meetings, and/or events at the discretion of the President and/or General Counsel/Staff Director.
