Contracts Assistant II

Based in Los Angeles, CA

 

The Contracts Department of the Writers Guild of America West is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant II. This position is a full time, non-exempt (hourly) position with excellent comprehensive benefits package. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

The WGAW is currently operating remotely, but the position is based in Los Angeles when in-office work resumes based on state and local public health guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Scan and code contracts into the Guild’s imaging system and verify information provided by third parties;
  2. Review contracts to determine whether they are in compliance with the MBA and identify below-minimum contracts for follow-up;
  3. Conduct research in order to identify the intended market for which literary material is written;
  4. Review contracts for compensation and other key information to be entered as meta-data;
  5. Conduct research on contract terms as requested by Contracts Counsel and other Guild staff;
  6. Fulfill contract requests made by writers, attorneys and other Guild personnel;
  7. Make demands on Companies for contracts and contact individual writers for contracts when necessary;
  8. Respond to telephone, email and in-house inquiries regarding initial compensation and other MBA provisions in connection with employment and purchases of literary material under WGA jurisdiction;
  9. Provide general clerical and project support to the Contracts Department;
  10. Other duties as required.

OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be computer literate (MSWord, WordPerfect, Lotus, Excel), type at least 35 words per minute, and be very detail-oriented; possess strong verbal communication skills and be able to interact with lndustry professionals.
  2. Must be able to comprehend key MBA provisions and the basics of legal contracts and related documents.
  3. Must possess initiative, ability to work independently, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
