About the Position
The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting functions for the Union. They will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. A successful candidate will have a hands-on approach, be a team player, and will be committed to developing and maintaining sound financial operations within the Union.

As a supervisor, with shared vision and purpose, you will drive organizational change and effectiveness through a focus on staff and team development, accountability, and equity and inclusion.

This position is based in Portland/Salem, with at least 2 days a week in Salem. SEIU 503 will reimburse relocation costs up to $5000 for successful candidates.

Job Duties

  • Monitor all financial performance of the organization
  • Compile and analyze monthly financial reports
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Perform consolidation entries including inter-organization transactions
  • Work with CFO to prepare annual operating budgets
  • Oversee Payroll Specialist bi- weekly payroll and work closely with HR team to process payroll functions
  • Assist with daily cash management with CFO
  • Supervise work of Finance Department Accounting Technicians or other department staff
  • Work with the finance team to implement new technology systems and related business practices
  • Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the organization’s procedures
  • Manage financial relationships with outside vendors and consultants
  • Provide direct supervision. Coach, motivate, and develop staff to meet department and organization needs and objectives
  • Work with outside auditors and consultants to maintain federal and state reporting and audits.
  • Direct the maintaining of accurate property records on all purchases of land, building and equipment, and processing of annual depreciation. Direct the preparation and filing of annual real and personal property tax reports
  • Maintain open communication for a positive and effective work culture
  • Participate as part of the Administration Team of the Union in organization-wide activities, strategic planning, achievement of programmatic goals, restructuring discussions, and any other managerial or organizational duties, as assigned
  • Participate in union-wide membership drives, political campaigns and other field activities as assigned which may include worksite visits, phone banking, house visits, door-to-door canvassing and literature drops

Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA, preferred but not required. Experience in highly complex fiscal activity including budget preparation and analysis, financial statement preparation, cash flow projections. Knowledge of accounting principles, audit standards, tax and personnel laws. Ability to work effectively with department heads and other employees. Experience in supervision with excellent communication skills. Experience with multiple accounting software systems. In-depth knowledge of accounting and auditing standards to recommend and implement internal control procedures. Ability to analyze problems and prioritize projects. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate the work of others, and work with persons unfamiliar with proper accounting procedures. Ability to handle confidential personnel issues. Ability to communicate effectively and work independently under general guidelines. Knowledge of Acumatica accounting and Kronos HR systems, is helpful but not required, EXCEL software, and Word Processing, with ability to adapt to developing technologies. Requires more than 8 hours per day to carry out responsibilities, and occasional weekend work required. Attendance at committee meetings and evening Finance Committee meetings. Office setting with standard office equipment noise. Some travel to bank and CPA offices.

Compensation range is based on experience $74,316-$98,988 annually.
