ORGANIZATION PROFILE: The SEIU Missouri State Council represents 14,000 home care and health care providers, higher education faculty, janitors, as well as patient care professionals, first responders and social service workers. SEIU members are winning better wages, healthcare and more secure jobs, while ensuring that working people, not just wealthy special interests, benefit from today’s economy.

The SEIU MO/KS State Council is seeking a seasoned Political Organizer to engage with SEIU members, coalition partners, and State and Local elected officials to build long-term political power and advance our Federal, State, and Local legislative agenda. The Political Organizer is responsible for developing member leaders, executing campaigns, and maintaining relationships with community allies.

The Political Organizer will report to SEIU MO/KS State Council Executive Director and will work in close collaboration with SEIU Local Unions, SEIU members, and coalition partners to coordinate volunteer activities and help ensure concurrence on common policy interests and support a variety of campaigns and outreach programs.

Travel is not required at this point in time, but may be in the future. Hours are flexible but include evening and weekend work. Position is full time.


  • Support Executive Director in building analysis and developing strategic electoral, issue, and legislative campaigns
  • Recruits, develops and equips members to be civic leaders and activists.
  • Educate, organize and mobilize members for electoral, issue, and legislatives campaigns.
  • Runs phone banks, peer-to-peer text drives, and coordinates with Local Union staff on other outreach
  • Trains members to use phone banking, texting, letter writing and virtual communications/messaging tools and ensures follow through on the execution of these strategies
  • Utilizes VAN voter files and peer-to-peer data tools to compile, track, and motivate SEIU members and supporters to volunteer, contact their elected representatives, and vote
  • Generate reports demonstrating member engagement and voter contact activities
  • Supports federal, state, and local advocacy objectives by coordinating with state affiliates and other strategic partners and stakeholders in directly engaging with their elected representatives.


  •  3+ years organizing experience with political organizing (electoral campaigns, lobbying, etc.), with demonstrated results, desired
  • Experience engaging multiple stakeholders in collaborative processes for collective impact.
  • Tech savvy. Must have experience with current digital organizing and communications tools, including but not limited to social media.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with community-based organizations (including neighborhood, religious, and civic organizations) and willingness to do outreach to community groups and leaders.
  • Ability to implement field plans and operate autonomously in the field.
  • Experience managing field campaigns and voter contact databases [i.e. VAN, Google Suite, Excel].
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizing and political campaign strategies.
  • Ability to develop and train staff and worker leaders in the skills needed for the campaign.
  • Knowledge of organizing campaign database management tools such as Organizer Toolbox or other similar applications. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to write and proofread campaign communications materials.

JOB Type: Full-time

PAY: $50,000 – $60,000 per year
