Director of Hospitals

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Odgers Berndtson is conducting a search for a Director of Hospitals.

Our client is one of Ontario’s largest and longstanding Hospital Unions. Their members are described as multidiscplinary, supporting all facets of hospital operations. Their focus is to advocate on behalf of members by launching progressive member driven programs, adapting best practices and encouraging new and innovative ideas.

Our client is looking for an individual with a desire to amplify the voice of workers! If you are passionate about labour and social justice and want to work toward changing the lives of workers, then this leadership opportunity is for you. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, the Director of Hospitals will be responsible for develop-ing and leading the strategy for building power for hospital workers across Ontario. The Director will lead a team of 14 individuals that will execute participatory and powerful campaigns to negotiate and win collective bargaining agreements, organize effective member leaders, defend contracts, and communicate to all members. The Director will also be responsible to lead member education and mobilization programs in support of the broader organizational strategy to strengthen a wider movement for social justice and political participation across hospital membership.

The ideal candidate will possess the communication skills required for a senior la-bour relations leadership position: verbal, written and presentation skills, and active listening. You have the political acumen to lead labour relations and collective bar-gaining within a complex healthcare environment, and with sophisticated parties. You possess the insight and judgement required to successfully align the client’s strategic and corporate priorities. An influencer and relationship builder who can foster cooperation, support and consensus, through a style that employs diplomacy, tact, emotional intelligence, strategic and analytical thinking, you enjoy working for an employer who values diversity, equity, inclusion, and service to the public and, as a leader, you will look to coach and mentor your team and support the growth and development of members at large through your interactions with local staff.
