Carbon Free and Healthy Schools Campaign Director

Climate Jobs NY (CJNY) is a growing coalition of labor unions—representing more than 2.6 million working New Yorkers—united to combat climate change and reverse inequality. CJNY’s mission is to advocate for a clean energy economy at the scale climate science demands, create good union jobs, and support more equitable communities and a more resilient New York.

CJNY is engaging in a Carbon Free and Healthy Schools campaign to drive solar power and energy efficiency retrofits across New York City schools. This is a moment when we can take large-scale action across NYC’s 1400 schools to simultaneously reduce emissions, make schools healthier for students and the school community—prioritizing schools most in need of investment—create good union jobs, and save millions on energy costs for schools. CJNY is hiring a Campaign Director to coordinate this work.

Key Responsibilities:
In coordination with Climate Jobs NY Executive Director and Executive Committee:

  • Develop a political and community outreach plan to promote the NYC Carbon Free and Healthy Schools initiative to secure federal financing and local implementation
  • Leverage CJNY Executive Committee member engagement to support grassroots engagement targeted at local and federal elected officials
  • Work closely with NYC schools unions to plan and coordinate campaign activity
  • Coordinate with the Climate Jobs NY communications team on communications strategy, including social media, press outreach, digital advertising
  • Build and manage grassroots and community organization/stakeholder support for Carbon Free and Healthy Schools

Key Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to progressive social change, racial justice, and familiarity with the labor movement and the issues that are central to CJNY’s work and vision
  • Experience leading campaigns and coordinating the work of multiple allies
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Effective time-management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision
