The Committee of Interns and Residents, the largest resident physicians’ union in the country, is looking for a New Organizer. This position has the responsibility of successfully managing all aspects of an organizing campaign.

Our vision is to be the national voice for interns, residents and fellows and to create better working conditions that allow physicians-in-training the ability to provide the highest quality patient care possible by building power through their union.

Job Summary:
The Committee of Interns and Residents is looking to fill a New Organizer position in California. CIR is committed to the growth of the organization through strategic organizing campaigns. To accomplish this, we need a highly driven and committed individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills and can effectively solve problems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct broad and intensive outreach
  • Build one-on-one relationships
  • Identify, recruit and develop leaders
  • Conduct individual and group meetings to move organizing campaigns forward
  • Engage, motivate and mobilize physicians-in-training to take action
  • Plan and implement actions and events to support organizing efforts
  • Comprehend resident work life, training, governance structures, terminology, and role within hospital operations.
  • Familiarity with the ways CIR operates in an organized hospital.
  • Maintain good relationships with other CIR departments and utilize their resources to strengthen and guide campaigns.
  • Be well versed in labor law specifically related to regulations governing union recognition.
  • Perform basic campaign research, including probing, list building and worksite mapping. net
  • Facilitate meetings effectively.
  • Engage with physicians-in-training on issues related to quality improvement, health disparities and better working conditions
  • Work directly with physicians-in-training, gaining an understanding of front line providers in the hospital setting
  • Opportunity to work with a tight-knit team of organizers, as well as communications, research, legal, political and contract staff
  • Develop skills in public speaking, health care economics, strategic research, and campaign execution

Requirements and Skills:

  • Previous experience in labor movement preferred but not required
  • Healthcare experience preferred, but not required
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and writing)
  • Strong ability to connect and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds in pursuit of a common goal
  • Capability to think critically to manage conflict and adversarial situations
  • Ability to work independently and possess a strong work ethic
  • Ability to quickly incorporate feedback and direction from your supervisor.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Flexible working outside normal business hours, ability to work in the evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel throughout the country frequently and for long periods of time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
  • Proficiency with Google products such as Gmail and Google Drive (docs & sheets)
  • Recognizable interest in the work and the membership and a desire to advance the organization.
  • Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and handle fast-paced settings, multiple projects and tight deadlines.
  • Critically evaluate one’s own performance, incorporating feedback into improving performance.
  • Develop one’s own skills, acquire knowledge and proactively seek opportunities to learn.
  • Effective and appropriate communication with potential members, staff, administrators, and supervisors.
  • Effective written and verbal communications. Exceptional communication skills (verbal and writing)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of organizing experience
  • Previous experience in labor movement preferred but not required
  • Healthcare experience preferred, but not required

CIR Offers:

  • Competitive salary ($59,670-$79,950) commensurate with experience and in compliance with the staff collective bargaining agreement
