Contract Manager
Staff Position for Full-time Faculty Union

Based in Fairbanks, AK or Anchorage, AK
(temporarily remote)

 

United Academics (UNAC) Local #4996 is a faculty union representing 1,000+ full-time faculty across 16 campuses of the University of Alaska (UA) system. The successful candidate will report to the President of United Academics and is one of the key points of contact for union members and UA Labor Relations. Duties will include, and are not limited to, these following:

  • Provides daily assistance, advice, and counsel on the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between United Academics and UA.
  • Communicates frequently with faculty union members, the UNAC Executive Board, the UNAC Representative Assembly, UA administrators, UA Board of Regents, various UA HR staff, other unions in Alaska, national affiliate labor organizations, contract attorneys, and elected State of Alaska officials.
  • Supervises 1+ FTE, monitors 3rd party bookkeeping services, manages vendor contracts, schedules elected union official travel, handles documentation/evidence files, encourages member enrollment, advocates for faculty, pursues professional development opportunities, and assumes other necessary duties as assigned.

Location:

  • While remote work is temporarily in place due to COVID measures, the successful individual will need to be physically located in either Anchorage, AK or Fairbanks, AK where UNAC and the University of Alaska currently have offices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years’ related professional-level experience (e.g., labor relations, human resources, paralegal, contract compliance, public education); 4 years’ additional related professional experience may be counted towards the degree requirement.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain highest levels of integrity and strict confidentiality of restricted information.
  • Expert administrative skills related to file management, time management, and follow-up.
  • Extraordinarily effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working effectively with others and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated skills necessary to conduct effective business operations, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to frequently travel within Alaska for UNAC business, and as needed outside of the state for professional conferences and other related activities.
  • Ability to supervise staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience managing and administering a CBA in a union environment.
  • Expert fluency with current labor relations and/or human resource management practices such as labor and employment law, EEO programs, compliance, employee relations, policies and procedures, performance, compensation, and/or benefits administration).
  • Experience with public sector unions, higher education labor relations, or human resources.
  • Experience with grievances, employee investigations, and employment-related litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state labor laws and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Labor Relations Board and related standards/requirements.
  • Prior experience working with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and/or the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
  • Familiarity with the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA), methodology for compensation surveys, and comprehension of data.
  • Knowledge of University of Alaska Board of Regents regulations, policies and practices.
  • Proven ability to effectively provide information in an individual or group presentation.
  • Familiarity with Google Drive, Constant Contact, VoteNet, and/or WordPress.

Compensation:

  • Pay will be commensurate with experience.
