National Coordinator

Founded in 2009, the Labor Campaign for Single Payer Healthcare affiliates include 14 national unions and dozens of regional and local labor organizations. We are seeking a National Coordinator to help us move the organized labor movement into the forefront of the fight to win Medicare for All.

Position Overview
The National Coordinator is the principal administrative officer and directs the day-to-day work of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer. The National Coordinator leads in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategy, programs and campaigns. Applicant should be grounded in an understanding of how the working class can drive social change and passionate about healthcare justice. The National Coordinator reports to the Board of Directors and works in collaboration with the National Steering Committee.

Work Environment

  • Work will be performed remotely. However, there will be extensive meetings and activities in Washington, DC and applicant must have the ability to get there on short notice.
  • The position requires significant travel.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage affiliates, allies, and labor leaders in support of the LCSP’s mission, campaigns and programs.
  • Develop and maintain a strong National Steering Committee and National Advisory Board.
  • Recruit new affiliates and leaders.
  • Assist affiliates and supporters in executing their internal Medicare for All work.
  • Coordinate legislative advocacy work.
  • Produce regular written communications to affiliates and activists.
  • Compose and/or commission articles and interviews on healthcare and labor.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with allies in the Medicare for All movement.
  • Solicit and coordinate speaking and presentation opportunities before labor, community and advocacy organizations.
  • Attend meetings of unions, labor councils, federations and other labor bodies as needed.
  • Organize regular national strategy conferences and other meetings and events as appropriate.
  • Monitor relevant developments in healthcare policy, labor, the Medicare for All movement and related healthcare justice organizing and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Oversee social media operations.
  • Administer fundraising programs for affiliates, individuals and potential donors.
  • Prepare annual work plan and budget.
  • Maintain financial records and ensure that all legally required reports and filings are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.


  • Knowledge of the labor movement, healthcare policy and grassroots organizing.
  • Experience as an organizer/advocate in labor and/or social movement organizations.
  • Demonstrated writing and public speaking abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience managing or leading staff, consultants, vendors and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise prudent political judgment and discretion.
  • Knowledge and experience using digital technology and basic computer programs.
  • A working knowledge of federal and state legislative processes and of the laws and regulations pertaining to labor, c 4 and c 3 organizations would be a big plus.

The salary range for this position is $62,000–$73,000.
