Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWJ) is a worker center fighting for good, living wage jobs among the thousands of transportation and logistics workers in the Chicago area, the largest intermodal logistics hub on the planet. Our work blends union and worker' center models, focusing on long-term leadership development, alliances with community organizations, and development of innovative organizing tactics.

Our Labor and Environmental Justice Community Organizer position is an outgrowth of years of collaboration with local, state and national frontline environmental justice organizations fighting for climate, jobs and justice from the warehousing and logistics industry. This position will work at the intersection of environmental sustainability and the fight for worker and economic justice.


  • Develop and execute field plan
  • Build grassroots support for policy and coalition initiatives, including priorities of the Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition
  • Build a base in Will County in support of transitioning to Zero-Emission Vehicles. This could include but is not limited to building a base to support corporate or policy campaigns related to ZEV transition around the areas surrounding North America’s largest inland port.
  • Lead one-on-one and group meetings
  • Assist the Associate Director in engaging the Athena Climate Table and other national coalitions.
  • Educate the public on the need to address transportation pollution as it relates to public health, the environment/climate change and workers’ rights.


  • Previous organizing experience in labor or environmental justice organizing a plus
  • Ability to make and execute a workplan
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
  • A working vehicle and a valid drivers' license
  • Basic computer and writing skills
  • A strong commitment to social justice
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Will County based preferred

Will be supervised by WWJ’s Associate Director. Salary is $45k – $52k depending on experience. Benefits and car allowance are provided.
