Worker Protection Outreach Organizer
(6 Month Project Staff)

Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWJ) is a worker center fighting for good, living wage jobs among the thousands of transportation and logistics workers in the Chicago area, the largest intermodal logistics hub on the planet. Our work blends union and worker' center models, focusing on long-term leadership development, alliances with community organizations, and development of innovative organizing tactics.

Our Worker Protection Outreach Organizer position will be an intensive outreach position, aimed at providing COVID emergency resources to warehouse workers vulnerable to infections. This work will happen entirely in the Cook County suburbs. This is only a 6-month assignment from December 1st to May 31st. However, there is a chance for the project to be extended.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute field plan
  • Promote WWJ’s ongoing ‘Know Your Rights’ and COVID Emergency response efforts, including directing workers to COVID testing and emergency resources
  • Distribute Know Your Rights and PPE materials
  • Conduct intensive worker outreach efforts
  • Identify potential worker leaders and activist
  • Gather information necessary for enforcement of labor laws

Requirements:

  • Previous organizing experience a plus
  • Ability to make and execute a workplan
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
  • A working vehicle and a valid drivers' license
  • Basic computer and writing skills
  • A strong commitment to social justice
  • Spanish speaking is a plus

Will be supervised by WWJ’s Associate Director. Salary is $43k – $48k (annual) depending on experience. Benefits and car allowance are provided.
