West Tennessee Field Representative

Position Overview
The Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council’s West Tennessee Field Representative also serves as the Memphis and West Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council’s Political and Legislative Secretary. The position is Memphis-based and reports to both the President of the Tennessee AFL-CIO and the Memphis Labor Council. The position requires significant time developing relationships with Local unions to move political and legislative campaigns, designing and implementing a full-spectrum electoral political program, developing and winning local legislative reform efforts, and supporting statewide legislative fights.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build deep relationships with affiliate Locals and organize affiliates to participate fully in local and state political and legislative programs
  • Lead Local affiliates in the collaborative development and implementation of local electoral and legislative strategies
  • Create scripts, lists, phone banks, and other Labor-to-Labor political communication using the LAN database.
  • Identify and recruit union volunteers from affiliated unions for phone banks, peer-to-peer texting, worksite leafleting, relational outreach, and other member communications.
  • Convene and facilitate voter outreach events, volunteer trainings, and meetings.
  • Generate and assess reports.
  • Work with the state federation to increase Local union affiliations and mobilize for statewide legislative needs
  • Collaborate on overall strategic plan development with the Executive Secretary and Political Director.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Meeting facilitation and training program execution
  • Understanding of unions and labor political program
  • Experience with VAN, LAN, or similar voter database
  • Volunteer recruitment and leadership

Qualification and Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent tech skills, including Zoom, Google Suite, and social media platforms, as well as proficiency with VAN or other similar databases, Canva or similar design suite
  • Experience working on political campaigns
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and training

This is a union-represented, exempt position, starting at $42,500 plus benefits. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
