Description: This is a paid Internship located in Los Angeles, California for currently enrolled students or recent graduates of a California University. Expected hours are 12-20 per week at an hourly rate of $18 (additional benefits not included). This position requires a six-month commitment from Aug 1st 2020 until Feb 1st 2020.

Interns will work directly with the Communications Officer, Executive Director, and other staff to support the internal and external communications campaigns of the union. Interns will also participate in activities designated to elevate the statute of the labor movement.

Specific duties: Social media postings and campaigns; develop flyers, newsletters (digital and paper), update websites; write articles and papers suitable for publishing internally and externally; assist member leaders in developing a communications program and strategy; assessing and coordinating communications needs between departments and local affiliates; and performing research, among other duties as assigned.

Requirements/eligibility: Enrollment in upper division or graduate level course work or recent graduation from an accredited California University; Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel; proficient knowledge of the Internet as a research tool; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent analytical skills.

Preferences: Communications Studies, Journalism Studies, Government, Political Science or related majors; Public Relations; Marketing; experience with/knowledge of labor issues, local and state level political arenas, and the California legislative process a plus.
