Payroll Accountant

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Human Resources and Payroll Manager, the Payroll Accountant assists in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation in the company and assists the Controller with accounting and financial reporting.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Payroll Accountant oversees the full cycle payroll management and participates in the assisting in the accounting functions within the accounting department. Payroll Accountant maintains regulations, laws and general GAAP procedures within the department and possess strong analytical, problem solving and budgetary skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Manage compensation using ADP payroll software.
  • Process payroll by established deadlines.
  • Collect and verify timekeeping and timecard information for all employees.
  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Prepare, process, and print manual checks as needed.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies, answer payroll inquiries, and enforce payroll policies.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports to manager.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, scanning, photocopying, etc.
  • Assist Controller with financial reporting, financial audits, payroll audits.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports to Manager
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or in a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure and with tight deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using QuickBooks software and ADP software, desired.
  • Experience in full cycle payroll processing a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office Programs (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.)
  • Knowledge of union member accounting processes and procedures, desired
  • Knowledge of DOL union regulations, desired.
