Overview: Reconnecting McDowell (“RM”) is a comprehensive, long-term effort to make educational improvement in McDowell County the route to a brighter economic future. Convened by the American Federation of Teachers, partners from business, foundations, government, nonprofit agencies and labor have committed to seeking solutions to McDowell County West Virginia’s complex problems—poverty, underperforming schools, drug and alcohol abuse, housing shortages, limited medical services, and inadequate access to technology and transportation.

Position Description:

  • This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the grant preparation and submission process;
  • Responsible for the identification of funding opportunities and the development, writing and submission of major grant proposals. Efforts will be primarily focused on, but not limited to, significant programmatic and research funding opportunities from federal, state, local, and private sources.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Developing a fundraising plan that maintains relationships with existing funders and attracts funding from new sources;
  • Researching and identifying funding opportunities from corporate, foundation, major individual donor sources;
  • Developing & writing grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and major individual donors;
  • Communicating RM’s mission and programs to potential funders persuasively;
  • Managing, assembling & submitting grant requests, including letters of support, proposals, presentations and reporting;
  • Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities – including deadline dates, required materials, etc.;
  • Complete and submit grant applications to secure funding;
  • Successfully understand and communicate mission and vision of company applying for the grant;
  • Maintain chart of grant applications: including grants applied to, status of application, grant deadline.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with, or an understanding of, the components of fundraising, and the skill set necessary to attract resources;
  • Familiarity with grant writing and foundations who fund non-profits;
  • Successful project management experience;
  • Creative and innovative thinker with great interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Some travel required. This position is located in West Virginia, though remote work will be considered.
  • Salary is commensurate with experience;
