CWA Local 1037 is a progressive, social justice union based out of Newark, NJ that represents more than 10,000 workers at over 400 worksites in both the public and private sector in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren Counties.

CWA Local 1037 is seeking an Office Manager with experience working with unions or non-profit/advocacy organizations to support daily office operations, provide support to project staff, and perform administrative functions. The ideal candidate should be able to work both independently and in teams and handle multiple assignments meeting quality standard and specific deadlines.

  • Supervise support staff and assign daily tasks
  • Oversee updating of membership database and data entry
  • Provide administrative support to management and project staff to assist on specific projects, campaigns, and daily workflow
  • Prepare and maintain financial transactions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
  • Prepare monthly financial reports
  • Work with Local Union Treasurer and accountants on monthly review for audits
  • Work with third party benefits administrator to oversee staff health benefits, retirement and fringe benefits
  • File all necessary financial, disclosure, and state business reports
  • Maintain and services contracts with third party vendors and insurance carriers
  • Monitor, review and forward incoming emails from organization’s primary email account
  • Notify and coordinate with IT service vendor to address network issues and staff PC issues
  • Leasing/purchasing and maintenance of office equipment and supplies
  • Book locations and arrange logistics for off-site meetings, trainings and conferences
  • Oversees office space leasing, maintenance and cleaning
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Prior management experience necessary
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities to complete work in a timely manner and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and members at all levels of the organization
  • Bookkeeping and accounting skills are necessary
  • Knowledge and proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically MS Access, Outlook, and Excel
  • Proficiency with bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks
  • Experience in dealing with third party vendors and contracts


  • Spanish fluency
  • HR experience a plus
  • Experience working with a labor, advocacy, student or community organization
