Interim Executive Director

Based in Okemos, MI

 

The Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is the largest, most effective union for RNs and healthcare professionals across the state. MNA advocates for nurses, healthcare professionals, and their patients at the Capitol, in the community, and at the bargaining table. To assist in this advocacy, MNA is seeking an Interim Executive Director who will report to the elected Board of Directors.

The duties of the Interim Executive Director would be as follows:

  • Provide oversight of the management team in conducting the operations of MNA on a day-to-day basis.
  • Implement MNA’s strategic plan.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of the political and legislative program.
  • Provide oversight for the finance department’s administration of the budget and ensure its responsibility for compliance with financial and legal regulations.
  • Oversee and collaborate with the management team to provide direction of MNA staff.
  • Provide oversight for the direction of the MNA field operations, including internal and external communications.
  • Provide oversight and set direction for nursing continuing education development and field implementation as well as supervision of electronic continuing education program.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in healthcare, labor relations, or a related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated career in organized labor, healthcare, or social justice with a history of steadily increasing responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role with a track record of fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships on behalf of the Association with labor organizations, employers, and other organizations
  • The willingness to embrace work in a strong member driven and democratic environment

Desired qualifications include:

  • Experience in negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge or experience in the nursing field
  • Experience in the development and implementation of external organizing campaigns and contract campaigns
  • Prior work in legislative advocacy
  • Knowledge or experience in communications and public relations
  • Strong organizational development skills

Compensation and benefits provided by MNA are highly competitive. This is a temporary time-limited position the exact term of which is open to discussion with the individual candidate.
