Starting Salary: $67,119

This position is responsible for coordinating the video needs in major organizing, contract, political and other priority campaigns. Works closely with units within Communications Department, as well as other International and affiliate staff, unorganized workers and members. Also provides video communications training for staff and affiliates and produces other communications collateral to support AFSCME’s priorities. Incumbent will be given assignments.

Duties:

  • Assists with the planning and implementation of video communications strategies and tactics for priority initiatives and campaigns in coordination with International staff and affiliates.
  • Assists with identifying target audiences and collects and promotes workers’ stories.
  • Assists with the creation of collateral communications assets, with direction and guidance from international staff as needed.
  • Assists in creating videos from concept to finished product, including scripting, production, lighting, audio engineering and editing, both at Washington, DC headquarters and while on travel.
  • Assists with conceiving and implementing comprehensive digital campaigns that engage both members and potential members and utilizes range of channels, (websites, email, social media, and texting, etc.) with direction and guidance from International staff as needed.
  • Assists with worker mobilization and community and political outreach efforts associated with targeted campaigns.
  • Works with national union departments and affiliates to develop their video capacity.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in labor relations, communications, political science or liberal arts and a minimum of three years of experience in labor, political or community organizing and campaign or a combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills:

  • Multi-format video editing skills using Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Studio and delivering finished digital video products for an online audience.
  • Experience producing and filming on location in dynamic conditions.
  • Knowledge of design tools, such Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere).
  • Ability to analyze research data and make logical conclusions.
  • Experience running multi-channel digital campaigns and knowledge of digital media platforms including web content management systems, email tools, social media, etc.
  • Ability to evaluate the success of a digital campaign by compiling and reviewing analytics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to execute a campaign message and enforce message discipline in fast-paced campaigns.
  • Ability to use initiative to execute projects that may be vaguely defined.
  • Ability to set priorities, work under pressure, handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet established deadlines.
  • Must thrive in an environment with tight deadlines, changing priorities, high-pressure, lots of travel and irregular hours.
  • Requires a high level of judgment and ability to take initiative and work independently

Travel and work hours:

  • Travel and extended work hours may be required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
