State Legislative Coordinator
  Political & Legislative Action Department

Based in Washington, DC

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), based in Washington DC, is looking for a State Legislative Coordinator in its Political & Legislative Action Department.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage day to day operations of the Teamsters State Legislative Programs.
  • Build the legislative infrastructure in states that currently lack coordinated programs, as well as develop electoral strategies to help advance the legislative agenda.
  • Work with department staff to ensure that legislative and field activities are closely coordinated.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring member-to-member communications on state and local political and legislative issues.
  • Work with Teamster affiliates on achieving their state and local legislative goals.
  • Assist with grassroots mobilization around legislative issues.
  • Reviews field plans for issue campaigns to determine if they warrant support and/or funding.
  • Travels for out of town assignments as necessary.
  • Participates in conferences and meetings as assigned.
  • Attends coalition and table meetings as representative of the IBT.
  • Coordinates activities with other members of the Department of Political & Legislative Action as well as IBT Departments and Divisions.
  • Assists the Director/Assistant Director with any special projects or presentations, as needed.

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor of Arts degree and minimum two years legislative experience. Campaign experience preferred. Demonstrated understanding of state legislative processes and union/labor movement activities is also required.
